We can stop this but we have to stand up to the real estate lobby and do everything possible to fight displacement. Together, we will create a Social Housing Development Authority to create hundreds of thousands of permanently affordable homes state-wide, we will support tenant organizing through the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act, we will expand Good Cause protections and defend rent stabilization, and we will protect our most vulnerable homeowners by expanding the cease and desist zone and adopting a tax on speculative home flipping.

We need to stand together against ICE and immigration fear mongering. We are all better off when our city is welcoming to everyone and we have to refuse the idea that working class communities should compete for scraps. We will pass New York for All to prohibit state agencies from collaborating with ICE, we will adopt Access to Representation to guarantee every New Yorker access to an immigration lawyer in deportation cases, and we will pass the MELT act to prohibit law enforcement from concealing their identities while on duty.

Real public safety comes from community investment and prevention. We have to do more than just respond to crime when it happens, we have to address the generational cycles of poverty and inequality that cause crime in the first place. Bushwick and East New York have long histories of community-driven efforts to improve public safety. That work continues and needs to be supported by our state government. We will invest in summer and after school programs, fund violence interruption, expand access to mental healthcare and substance abuse counseling, and improve visibility on Broadway and Fulton. We keep us safe.

Families in Bushwick and East New York deserve fully funded public schools from pre-K to college. Our students should not have to fight for access to experienced teachers, small classes, advanced courses, state-of-the-art facilities, and quality out-of-school programming. Together, we will fight to ensure that our schools have the resources they need to support all students. In K-12, we will fully fund our public schools, fill shortages of teachers and counselors, support restorative justice programs, adopt sex & consent education, and reject the unfunded mandates that strain our educators. In higher education, we will pass the REPAIR Act to force private colleges to pay their fair share and the New Deal for CUNY to make the system tuition-free.

Healthcare is a human right and access to care should not be contingent on anything. Our community has some of the lowest rates of health insurance in the city, along with limited options for community care. As a result, we experience unreasonably high rates of maternal mortality and preventable hospitalizations. It does not have to be this way. We will pass the New York Health Act to make healthcare universal, we will fully fund the hospitals that treat our community, and we will refuse to walk back access to the care that New Yorkers need, be it abortions, gender-affirming care, or maternity supports.

The cost of childcare is through the roof. Families across our community are forced to pay thousands of dollars per month just to care for their children — and those with multiple kids often pay more for childcare than they do for rent. This is unacceptable, especially in working class communities like ours. Without childcare, parents are forced to take years away from work and children go without the early socialization that childcare provides. We will provide no-cost childcare, 3K, and pre-K statewide so that every parent has the opportunity to provide for their family, every childcare worker earns a living wage, and every child has access to high quality programming.

Working class people built this city. We are what makes New York City great, and yet, we are being squeezed harder than ever. This city has 60+ billionaires and 350,000+ millionaires but, in Bushwick and East New York, almost 30% of people live in poverty and almost 70% live without access to emergency savings. That is not normal, and it does not have to be this way. Taking back power means empowering workers to join and form unions, and supporting a labor movement that fundamentally shifts the balance of power in our society. We will adopt a state-level ABC test to re-classify independent contractors as employees, we will amend the Taylor Law to allow public employees to strike, we will implement a $30 minimum wage, we will pass the EmPIRE Worker Protection Act to enforce labor standards, and we will take the Delivery Protection Act state-wide.

We are experiencing the effects of climate change on a daily basis in Bushwick and East New York. Every year, worsening storms and rising temperatures cause devastating floods and heat-related deaths. As if that wasn't enough, the City's energy monopolies are using this as an opportunity to price gouge: Con Ed prices have risen every year, with an 11.4% increase already proposed for 2026. Enough is enough. Together, we will fight back against the fossil fuel lobby, we will build public power through the New York Power Authority, and we will demand both the green infrastructure and environmental remediation that our community deserves.

Fast and free public transit is not just about convenience. People in our community rely on public transit to get to work, go to school, visit the doctor, and more. However, in Black and brown communities one in three New Yorkers struggle to afford public transit. That is not acceptable. It is our state's responsibility to provide the infrastructure that we need to get around safely and reliably. Together, we will implement Zohran's agenda for fast and free busses, we will reduce the cost of Citi Bikes and expand service to East New York, we will push for universal daylighting, and address the unsafe road conditions on streets like Broadway and Fulton.

The federal government is abusing its power at every opportunity, and we need a state government that will unapologetically fight back. We're feeling the consequences of fascism every day: federal agents are invading our communities, millions of our neighbors are losing access to healthcare and food stamps, and federal budget cuts have created a $15B deficit for our state. Now more than ever, we need our state government to step up and tax the rich. We have the resources to care for one another and, rather than cave to Trump's demands, we will build a future where everyone has access to housing, healthcare, safety, and dignity.

The ongoing genocide and occupation in Palestine is a local issue here in Bushwick and East New York. Our community understands that the oppression, violence, and displacement we are fighting against here at home are part of the same power imbalance we are witnessing across the world. That's why we will pass the Not on Our Dime Act to prevent New York nonprofits from funding illegal Israeli settlements and human rights abuses, we will stand with New Yorkers exercising their right to protest, we will end training collaborations between the NYPD and Israeli Occupation Force, and we will support workers taking a stand against the use of New York infrastructure to export genocidal weapons.

Our approach to incarceration has not made us safer. New York has the 16th highest incarceration rate in the world and imprisons Black and Latine residents at 8x and 3x the rate of white residents. Not only does this not keep us safe, it wastes an enormous amount of money: New York City spends over $550,000 each year to incarcerate a single person. We deserve a justice system that is measured, trustworthy, and humane — not one that fractures our communities, commits human rights abuses, and wastes our money. Together, we will decarcerate those who don't pose a threat to society, protect "raise the age" laws, abolish forced labor in New York prisons, and enforce the HALT Act's limits on solitary confinement.
