Our Commitment
Christian Celeste Tate for Assembly District 54 is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We recognize that our website is a work in progress and we are actively working to improve accessibility for all users.
Current Accessibility Status
We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. Our website currently has partial conformance, meaning some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standards.
Implemented Accessibility Features
Our website currently includes these accessibility features:
- Language Declaration: HTML lang attribute set to English
- Alternative Text: Most images include alt text descriptions
- Semantic HTML: Use of proper heading hierarchy and structural elements (nav, main, section)
- Responsive Design: Content adapts to different screen sizes and supports browser zoom up to 200%
- Readable Typography: Clear, legible fonts with appropriate sizing
- Button Labels: Some interactive elements include aria-labels for screen readers
Known Limitations and Areas for Improvement
We acknowledge the following accessibility limitations that we are working to address:
- Keyboard Navigation: Not all interactive elements have been fully tested for keyboard accessibility
- Focus Indicators: Visual focus indicators may not be consistent throughout the site
- Color Contrast: Some color combinations have not been verified to meet WCAG contrast requirements
- Skip Navigation: No "skip to main content" link is currently available
- Screen Reader Testing: Site has not been comprehensively tested with screen readers
- Form Accessibility: Embedded forms (including donation forms via ActBlue) are third-party content and may have their own accessibility limitations
- Interactive Maps: The district map may not be fully accessible to all users; text alternatives for map information are available on the page
- ARIA Landmarks: ARIA landmarks and roles are not comprehensively implemented
Third-Party Content
Our website includes third-party embedded content that we do not directly control:
- ActBlue donation forms: Processed by a third-party service with its own accessibility features
- Social media links: Lead to external platforms with their own accessibility standards
Our Improvement Plan
We are committed to improving accessibility and plan to:
- Add visible focus indicators for keyboard navigation
- Implement a "skip to main content" link
- Conduct comprehensive screen reader testing
- Verify and improve color contrast ratios throughout the site
- Add comprehensive ARIA labels and landmarks
- Test all interactive elements for keyboard accessibility
- Seek feedback from users with disabilities to identify additional improvements
